Sept 10, 2015: Latitude and Longitude

We're almost to Friday! One more day until the weekend!

We started our read aloud book, Coraline, by Neil Gaiman.

It's also a movie, so we will get to watch that when we are finished reading! After we read the first chapter we did a visualizing activity.  Each group was assigned an important part of the chapter to draw.  This helped us review what happened in the chapter, and visualize it in our heads!

Following read aloud we practiced our sentence of the week rules.  To review, the rules are

  1. Always start a sentence with a capital letter.
  2. Always finish a sentence with punctuation.
Finally, we finished up by continuing our discussion of the 5 Themes of Geography.  We continued learning about location, the first theme.  Today we discussed latitude and longitude.  We learned that the equator and the prime meridian divide the earth into hemispheres, and are the zero degree lines of latitude and longitude.

Your homework tonight is to finish the latitude and longitude worksheet, linked here, that we started together in class.  Some of you also have current events due tomorrow! Make sure to send me your stuff tonight!
